'Chale': Ghanaian for 'Friend'

from £25.00

My fellow Ghanaian’s will be very familiar with this one!

‘Chale’ is a word in the Ga language of Ghana meaning "friend" or "buddy" (pronounced ‘cha-le’) .

I fondly remember the first time I was aware of hearing this phrase; it was during my first trip to Ghana, when I was 10, and I heard “oh chale!” being called out on the streets between friends.

Fun fact: In Ghana we call flip-flops ‘chale wote’, which translates as ‘my friend, let’s go’.
